About our church's History

First Baptist Church of Painesville was formed in 1836. Originally in Grand River, it served as an underground railway station for runaway slaves during the Civil War. The church purchased a new building in Painesville in 1896. In 1968, the church built a new facility here on the present site of 10801 Johnnycake Ridge Road.

First Baptist believes that its purpose is the advancement of the kingdom of Jesus Christ. The church encourages the worship of God, the preaching of the Gospel, Christian fellowship, Christian education, personal stewardship, missionary activity, hospitality, and community service.

The church accepts the supreme authority of the Bible and its sufficiency as our only rule of doctrine and practice.
